Nevada Highway patrol says one person has died after being involved in a two-vehicle accident on eastbound I-80 near Fernley Sunday.

Chuck Allen with NHP says that around 4:00 pm, troopers responded to the accident located about 27 miles east of Fernley.

Officers say a 1988 gold BMW struck the back of a 2001 silver Dodge Caravan in the right hand lane of eastbound I-80. The Caravan veered off the freeway and rolled several times.

The Caravan’s passenger, 46-year-old Damon M. Faust of Utah, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Barbara C. Faust of Utah, was transported by Care Flight to Renown Regional Medical Center and remains in intensive care.

The driver of the BMW suffered minor injuries.

The accident is still being investigated

One dead, one seriously injured in I-80 wreck on Sunday

Staff Report
Reno Gazette-Journal

The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that killed a Utah man Sunday and left a woman seriously injured.

The crash, which happened at around 4 p.m. on Interstate 80, about 27 miles east of Fernley, killed Damon Faust, 46, of Mapleton, Utah, and injured Barbara Faust, also of Mapleton.

Troopers said that Anthony Rock, 53, of Winnemucca, was driving eastbound at a very high rate of speed when he suddenly hit his brakes and began to skid. Rock's vehicle slammed into a 2001 Dodge Caravan driven by Barbara Faust, causing her vehicle to leave the freeway and roll several times.

Damon Faust was pronounced dead at the scene, while Barbara Faust remains in the intensive care unit at Renown Regional Medical Center. Rock suffered minor injuries and was also treated at Renown.
